This is me doing the typical tourist thing. Photo: The Other
During the last full day of Hawaiian fun in Kauai, we took the time to explore various small attractions. You could call it that last tourist crawl to cram in all the last goodies before departure day. On our agenda this particular day were spots such as; Kamokila Hawaiian Village, Opaeka’a Falls, in addition to some of the various heiau, Kauai Museum and Spouting Horn.

Opaeka’a Falls. You don’t have to look very far to find a waterfall in Kauai. Photo: Adrienne
The stop at the falls was brief. It wasn’t that we didn’t appreciate the beauty of the gushing mountainside water slicing through the lush green vegetation. Remember: “tourist crawl.” Across from Opaeka’a is a lookout over the Wailua and just a short ways from there was Kamokila.

Even though the guide books were a little wishy-washy on visiting Kamokila we went anyway and we enjoyed our $5 spent. The folks at the front provide a detailed map of the grounds that help to clue you into what various thatched structures were once used for. I’d recommend it if you have a few days extra to kill on the island.

As you can tell, I enjoyed photographing the place.

Later that day we swung by Spouting Horn in the south which captured our imaginations for a brief moment before we were distracted by chickens again.

Just before we got back to our hotel we saw the sign for the fish pond and having not realized that it was so close, we decided to take the detour. We didn’t find any menehune, but we did catch the tail end of a sunset and took a moment to reflect on our wonderful stay in Kauai.

All photos by Adrienne C. Wilson; except where pictured. This dream vacation became real when friends, family, strangers in chat rooms and people who believed in my Trazzler piece about a place called, Haiti, voted for it. Many Mahalo to all the voters and to Trazzler. Major Mahalo to the contest sponsor the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.
