Purple Morning Mountains…

This morning when I woke up I had one thing on the brain and that was to get my butt out on the road to try to capture a beautiful sunrise on the mountain tops. As much as I wanted to back in further to Yellowstone, I didn’t want to face another long drive back. I know – I stink. Sunrise was scheduled to begin at 7:40 AM. We left around 6:45 AM and after driving for about 45 minutes I finally started seeing beautiful shades of faint lavenders, purples, and orange colors splashing off the mountain. The only drawback was the enormous clouds full of precipitation looming in front of the giant stone. I had two choices: sit, wait and hope that the cloud would dissolve away as the sun rose higher or to keep moving in search of other glowing peaks. I told Richard to keep the car moving. Within another 15 miles or so into the Grand Tetons National Park some amazing views started to reveal themselves and I could see the mountains in full, immersed by the suns’ morning glow.

Long story short I didn’t get the kind of photos I really wanted, but these two from my morning trip out conclude my big tour of the parks while hanging ten in Jackson.
