Crossing the Minnesota – Iowa state line on our way into Nebraska.
I-O-WA. Um, yes if you would have asked me earlier this year if I would have thought I’d be in Iowa, I probably would have looked at you some kind of crazy. Now when I look in the mirror, I look at myself some kind of crazy. Hell, I even feel crazy. (Can somebody play Gnarls Barkley for me?) Maybe dizzy is a better word. Remember how I said yesterday I ran my first 20 miles in Sioux Falls, SD? Yeah, well all in that same day which started at 6AM I managed to check out Sioux Falls, SD, drive into Minnesota, drive into Iowa and then make my way into Nebraska. I can’t keep track of myself.
Anyhow, Iowa was a whole lot of corn fields and then out of nowhere the town of LeMars appeared and had on its welcome sign “Ice Cream Capital of the World.” Huh? In Iowa? I mean, yes, it was 86 degrees on the day we were passing through, but I’m thinking it’s global warming doing a fine number on the weather and it’s not supposed to be that way. Stopping for ice cream was something we just had to do though. Richard pumped the brakes and hooked a left into the parking lot where we feasted on ice cream and frozen yogurt within minutes of our arrival. Was it the world’s best ice cream? Mmm… not really, but it was tasty. Reason for LeMars being the “Ice Cream Capital of the World” though is because it is the home to the largest family-owned ice cream producers in the world. Now how’s that for some Jeopardy trivia?

The Well’s Blue Bunny Ice Cream sign, reminding all that they’ve been in business since 1913. Recognize!

The interior of the ice cream parlor was rather cute with a 50′s sort of feel, but we took it outside since the weather was so warm.

My delicious homemade vanilla. Yum!
Is Iowa really incredible? For me, the ice cream made it all it ever needs to be. For someone else it may not be the same, but it is surely worth giving a chance, because you never know until you try.
Peace,
Adrienne

Adrienne,
This is an out of the blue question. Did you lose a memory card on this trip through the midwest. Actually, I shouldn’t ask it that way… Did you lose a Scandisk Ultra II 512mb memory card for your camera? i know you lost a memory card for your 169 Cannon, I’m just not sure if it is the one I just described or another one. I’ve been holding on to it for so long, I forget.
Story goes like this… We, at the foundation, mow our own lawn. Yes, it’s a large property, but it only amounts to about 20 standard house lawns when we stick to the outside. I was working the edge and noticed a memory card. I was sure it was ruined, but kept it anyway because it was in a plastic case (maybe that protected it, I thought with a lol). Maybe a year later I purchased a all in one memory card reader and remembered the one I found. Popped it in and saw that someone had traveled through IA and then to the Malcolm X Site.
Being the kinda people I am, I thought, self, figure out who this person is. I posted the pic of you by the marker for a week or two, hoping the person would say, “that’s me” and call. But then it seemed stalkerish, so I took it down. Since then I’ve been looking on line. Not just for this, but I try to pay attention to folks who speak of Bro. Malcolm and or our foundation. Each day I look at a few pages, especially when I have something else I should be doing.
Today, sister. I saw this picture of Incredible Iowa. And although it says Oct. 9 here, I think it was Oct 6th. So, I say all this to say… How do I get this thing and the dozen other pictures back to you? Hmmnn. If I found the memory card, how do you have the picture? Okay, that’s a side thought. Let me know.
Peace and Blessings.

Blessings Sharif,
Can I say, WOW?! The power of the internet is just an incredible thing and the fact that you held onto that memory card is mind-blowing as well. Your comment tickles the hell out of me. I thought I had mistakenly left that memory card at the hotel I was staying in, but it turns out it has a tale much more exciting than being left behind in hotel bed sheets.
I’m still laughing at this very moment as I was a bit peeved at myself for having lost that card. It isn’t a super-cheap purchase and I feared for my precious pictures getting into the wrong hands. Thank you for holding onto my memory card for so long – It is 2009 now, isn’t it?! Also, I must have taken the memory card out while at the foundation to put the other card in my camera. Because I was traveling with my card reader I had probably uploaded the pictures from Iowa a few nights before.
I am still laughing here, sorry…
